PRIMA BALLERINA, PARIS OPERA DIRECTOR OF DANCE
Aurélie Dupont was born in Paris in 1973. In 1983 she enrolled at the the Dance School of Paris Opera and in 1989 she entered the ballet team.
On December 31st 1998, at only 25 she is designated to become Prima Ballerina right after a representation of Don Quichotte by Rudolf Noureev.
During her career, she gets a lot of main roles in the biggest classical ballets.
As a polyvalent dancer, she is dancing neo-classical ballets, from George Balanchine to Roland Petit, but also contemporary ballets, from Pina Bausch to Wayne McGregor or Sasha Waltz.
Her casual dancing partners are Manuel Legris, Nicolas Le Riche or Hervé Moreau.
On July 14th 2005, she was awarded "Chevalier de l'Ordre National des Arts et des Lettres"
Invited all over the world, she danced in Romeo and Juliette at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2002. In 2009, she was asked by the American Ballet Theatre to dance in "Joyaux" a creation of George Balanchine.
She was also invited by the Karas Company to dance in a Saburo Teshigawara's creation in Japan in 2014.
On May 18th 2015, after the representation "L'histoire de Manon" by MacMillian she announced that she is leaving the scene of L'Opéra de Paris.
The event was filmed by Cédric Klapich and relayed in live in 30 movie theatres during the operation "Viva l'Opéra !".
The ballet was broadcast after the documentary "Aurélie Dupont danse, l'espace d'un instant…" directed by Klapich, allowing us to follow step by step the prima ballerina's incredible career.
She left the scene in an atmosphere filled with emotion in front of a moved audience who offered her a 25 minutes standing ovation under a huge shower of stars and glitters.
On July 14th 2015, she was awarded "Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur".
In September 2015, she became "Maitre du Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris".
Then on February 4th 2016, she was finally designated as the new "Directrice de la Danse de l'Opéra de Paris" following Benjamin Millepied's departure from the opera's head management.
Lately, she was chosen by Jerôme Dreyfuss to become the face of its last advertising campaign.
